New design for Android phones and web app with improved notifications and personalization

Posted in mysms news by mysms

We really love your feedback and feature suggestions. Therefore, we are proud to tell you that there is a major update available for our Android phone and web app. Not only the design is different, but also some great features have been implemented within the last few weeks.

Major update for our mysms Android phone and web app

Great improvements for mysms for Android phone

First of all we’d like to introduce you to the new mysms for Android phones:

1. Color your life

Standard design

mysms for Android phone got a new look. The subtle grey has gone and is now replaced by a fresh blue. It looks clean, stylish and simply great! Moreover, we’ve adapted the pop-up and widget – find more information below.

Themes

If you still want to get rid of the basic design, we’ve got really great news for you. We know that you have been waiting for this for a long time, but finally new themes are available for mysms. We now provide you with the following cool styles:

  • mysms – Dark Theme
You might know this one, as it was already downloadable. We made some major improvements, so it’s even more fun using it now. Did you know you can use it for saving battery?
  • mysms – Tron Theme
The tron theme gives mysms a breezy and fresh look. So, if you’d like to be in a cool mood, this theme seems perfect for you!
  • mysms – Pink Theme
Hey feminine mysms users, this one’s for you: With this theme the app shines in pink and gives mysms a bright look. This theme will make you smile every time you use it.

Wallpapers

There’s an additional way to personalize your mysms Android app: You can add wallpapers from your gallery for the background of the conversation view. You’ll find this feature in the mysms settings. It’s available for every theme as well.

2. Show your emoti(c)ons

Tell your friends how you feel by using the integrated smileys and emoticons. Just press on the smiley button next to the input field and your software keyboard will change into a smiley keyboard.

3. New overview of incoming messages in the pop-up

You might have already used the pop-up for notification of incoming messages. Besides direct reply, it’s possible to switch between conversations. If you receive messages from more than one recipient, you can switch to the other conversations by wiping or clicking on the arrow next to pop-up. Moreover, it shows how many new messages you have received.

The pop-up won’t appear if mysms is open. So, it won’t disturb you anymore while composing or reading another message.

4. Use widgets to have fast access to your messages

mysms now comes with five different widgets in two sizes (1×1 and 4×2). Every widget has its own or an extended functionality. The small icon widgets come either with a simple unread messages counter (as you’re already used to) or with a “new message function” that simply opens the new message view to compose it directly, if you click on it.

Depending on the one you choose, the bigger 4×2 widgets have different functionalities (the scrollable and lock-screen widget require Android 4.x):

  • Display of unread messages
  • Compose a new message
  • Show conversations or single messages
  • Select to only display unread messages
  • Show messages of all contacts or a preferred one
  • Switch between new or incoming messages
  • Mark messages as read
  • Use the widget in lock-screen
  • Choose between the Light and Dark theme

The renewed mysms web app

1. Enjoy the adapted design

We’d like to provide you with the best experience regarding sending and receiving messages that is similar on every single device. That’s why we’re updating the design of all apps including the web app. We hope you like it!

2. Make use of extended settings

You don’t favor the current message view that shows the input field and your last messages on top? Have a look at the settings (click on the cogwheel in the top right-hand corner) and choose “Reverse message order”. Be surprised, because the view will show up the other way around.

This was a brief overview of our new implemented features and design. What do you think of it?

mysms Messenger 3.0: New design and features for our iPhone App

Posted in mysms news by mysms

We’ve got a surprise for our iPhone users. We’ve released a new update that comes with a bunch of new features and a completely fresh design. It’s already available on the Apple App Store.

The mysms iPhone app shines in a new look

Shining like a star – our new design

Those of you who are already using our iPad app, might have noticed that we started testing a brand new design a few weeks ago. Thanks to your amazing feedback so far we decided to bring the new style also to our iPhone Messenger. Our lead designer Matthias worked hard to tweak the app to give it a fresh and cool look. The color theme works very well with our web and tablet apps, the icons are clean and simple and the bubbles appear subtle and look good with almost any wallpaper you choose. We hope it is also your taste!

Additional options for messages and conversations

It’s now easy to switch between existing conversations when swiping to the left and right in an open conversation. Additionally, you’ve got a wide range of new options when you tap and hold on a conversation or message. For conversations we provide you with the options to call the recipient directly, to send a text via your mobile carrier or to create a contact for unknown numbers. And for messages it’s now possible to copy, delete or lock them. The options “delete” and “lock” are applicable for multiple messages as well.

Personalize your mysms app

If you ever wanted to customize the appearance of mysms on your iPhone, you will be very pleased about this new feature: Customize mysms by using individual wallpapers for the conversation background! You’ll find this feature in your mysms settings. There you can choose whether you want to use an existing photo of your camera roll or take a new one.

New registration possibility

Until now some of you had to relinquish a mysms account, because we weren’t able to provide you with a PIN. Those days are gone! You can now register via call when not receiving a PIN SMS. Simply follow the registration process and click on “Received no PIN?” to trigger a free call from mysms that announces your PIN.

There is much more to discover, we’ve fixed several small bugs, updated the country list and added a series of new features that will make texting with mysms even better.

We hope you like the adaptations for the mysms iPhone app as it is time to download the update now 🙂

All about mysms groups: How to text with a group of friends

Posted in mysms news by mysms

If you are arranging a meeting or organizing a party, you will probably use texting at some point e.g. for updates or invitations. Isn’t it more convenient, if the whole conversation shows up in one thread rather than having single conversations with each person? That’s why we implemented the group feature that lets you text with up to 50 mysms friends at once.

Try the mysms group chat!

The group feature is available for the mysms Android phone, iPhone, tablet, desktop and web apps. In all apps you can create, leave, rename or delete a group/conversation and show or add group members. Let’s have a look on each feature separately:

Create a group

Why not starting a new group message and showing your friends how easy and convenient it is?

Android phone, iPad, Web App: On the top bar you will find an icon which shows your mysms friends. There, you can create a group by clicking on this icon, entering a group name and selecting your mysms friends.

iPhone: Just click on “Create new message” and create a group there. Find an appropriate name and invite your friends. Now you can start messaging.

Android tablet: On your Android tablet it is very easy to set up a group. [Simply click on “create group” on the top bar] Edit: Simply open the setting an choose “Create group”. As on every device, enter a name and invite your friends.

Here, you can invite more of your contacts and all existing group members will be notified about the new participant/s.

Show group members

In case you’ve been invited to a group, you’ll be notified and can start texting with your group members straight away. As you might be interested in who is participating in this group, you can have a look at the list of group members by selecting the conversation and opening the group message settings (for iPhone, iPad “Edit”). There you can select to show all members of the group.

Have you been invited to a group you do not want to belong to or has the conversation just finished? In this case you can simply leave this group. Once more you find this setting in the group message options. Here you can choose, whether you’d only like to leave the group, or if you’d additionally want to delete the conversation.

Delete a conversation

Deleting a whole group conversation is possible by going to the thread overview and tap/click and hold on the conversation (Android phone and tablet) or by clicking on “Edit”.
