[quick tip] (De-)activate toast message “Your text has been sent”

Posted in mysms quick tips by mysms

Toast messages serve as a confirmation that a specific action has been completed. Within the mysms Android phone app these notifications are available for sent messages both via your mobile carrier and via mysms friends. With today’s quick tip we’d like to show how to (de-)activate these messages.

Toast message

Toast message

We provide you with a toast notification for messages to let you know that the sending process of a message has been completed. This notification appears in a grey box on the bottom of the app with the note “Your text has been sent”.

Basically, this message confirms that the message has been sent successfully. It can be useful when you send messages on your desktop or tablet or when you have a poor mobile signal. Anyway, some of you asked for an option to disable it. Especially when you text a lot it can be annoying, if you receive this toast message while composing another reply or new message (as it overlays the keyboard). That’s why we’ve implemented a new setting. Under “Expert settings” in the mysms Android phone app, you’ll find an option called “Show toast message”. If you disable it, the toast message won’t be displayed any longer when sending a message.

We are always trying to improve our app by including your suggestions. Therefore, we’d like to thank our community for that feedback!

[quick tip] Mirror your calls from one phone to another phone

Posted in mysms quick tips by mysms

Do you own two phones with two different numbers? Isn’t it annoying to take both phones with you all the time? Imagine how convenient it would be to manage all your messages and even calls from both devices on one single phone. This is possible with mysms mirror!

Manage calls from two phones on one single device

mysms mirror is an SMS extension for mysms on your second phone. As you might already know, it allows you to manage your texts from two phones. With the latest update we’ve added a great feature to manage also calls from your other phone. So mysms mirror makes it obsolete to take two phones with you and allows you to handle messages and calls from one smartphone.

How to get notified on calls

Please make sure you’re using the latest versions of both the mysms app for Android phone and mysms mirror for Android phone (the feature will be available for mysms mirror for iPhone soon. Update: It’s already available on the Apple App Store). You will notice that mysms mirror shows a phone icon. Tap on this icon to show your complete call log from your other phone and to start a call. When someone calls you, a popup will be displayed, where you have the options to mute (yellow button) or dismiss (red button) a call. Additionally you can start a callback or respond with a message.

By using this feature you will never miss a call or a message from your other phone. The call feature is also available for Android tablet, Windows 8, Windows 7/XP, Mac and the web app.

A short hint: To make use of the whole call feature set on every device, go to the mysms phone settings and enable the option “Remote call” in addition to “Call log”. This option allows you to start calls directly from your tablet and desktop in addition to notifications on incoming and missed calls.

Have you already tried the call feature on any device? We’d be curious what you think about it. Feel free to share your experiences in the comments.

Update October 9, 2014: Starting today we are introducing a new Premium model that will be different to the Premium that we presented in this post. mysms mirror is one of many features that is included in the newly introduced Premium offer. Find more information about mysms Premium here.

[quick tip] Get notified on incoming texts using the DashClock widget

Posted in mysms news by mysms

mysms provides you with several widgets that can be used on your home or even on the lock screen. Anyway, if you’re a DashClock user, you might also like to display your incoming messages there.

DashClock notifes you on incoming texts

DashClock notifes you on incoming texts

Basically DashClock is a replacement for your lock screen clock widget and is available for Android phones and tablets that run Android 4.2 or higher. As we have integrated this widget for our mysms services (Android phone, Android tablet and mysms mirror for Android), it can now also show your new incoming texts.

If you’re using this widget already, you need to download the DashClock widget on your tablet or phone first. After positioning on your home or lock screen, open the DashClock settings. Click on “Add another extension” and search for mysms or mysms mirror. After adding it to your list, you can enable or disable options like the privacy mode.

Now you’re ready to go. The DashClock widget displays either a mysms icon with a badge that shows the number of unread messages or the sender’s name with the message content (depending on the privacy settings).  A tap on the notification directly opens the app. So you’re able to to read the whole text or to compose and send an answer immediately.

We hope that this implementation helps you to manage your messages even faster.

Get notified when your mysms friend is typing a message

Posted in messaging, mysms news by mysms

Ever wanted to know if the recipient of your message is already composing a reply? This is now possible with our latest integrated typing notification. Last week we’ve released this feature for Android tablet and iPad and now we’re expanding typing notifications also to Android phone, iPhone and the web.

How can I see that my contact is typing?

If you have enabled contact pics you’ll see three animated dots at the bottom of your photo, while the person on the other end is typing. It does matter if you are in the message overview or directly in a conversation, you will recognize that your contact is composing a message.

Do I get typing notifications for all my messages?

Typing notifications are only shown for mysms friends and they are displayed for single and group messages. For texts via your mobile carrier this feature is not available.

We are excited to offer you this feature and we hope it makes your mysms experience a lot richer. If you haven’t done so, get the update now and let us know if you like it!

Widgets and Popup – Have easy access to your messages

Posted in mysms news by mysms

You know, we are working hard to provide you with an amazingly easy and fast texting experience –not only on your smartphone, but for all your devices. One thing that a lot of you requested was the provision of different widgets and pop-ups for Android. Since the popup and the widgets are now available for both Android phone and tablet, we’d like to have a deeper look on it to show you the different functionalities.

Access your messages via widgets or the popup

Widgets – Have the most important messages always right at your hand

Android phone and tablet

The 4×2 widgets are available for Android tablet and phone. These widgets are the best, if you want to have your messages always right on your fingertips. On both you see the number of unread messages and you have easy access to compose a new message as well as to the message view in the app by clicking on the message or conversation. In addition they are available in light or dark theme and can both be used on the lock-screen (> Android 4.2). However, our widgets differ in the following way:

mysms (Messages)
Widget Messages
The settings of this widget let you choose, whether you want to display the messages of all or only a specific contact. You want to see the unread messages only? No problem, because there is also an option available for this. Moreover, you can mark messages as read by tapping the check box.
mysms (Conversations)
Widgets Conversations
Ever wanted to have your conversations directly on the homescreen? If so, this widget might be perfect for you as it shows all your conversations (requires > Android 4.0)

Android phone

For Android phone there are two additional 1×1 widgets available. These widgets hardly need any space on your homescreen, but will make messaging much faster:

mysms (Icon)
Widget Icon
The “mysms (Icon)” is quite similar to the usual mysms app icon. However, the important detail of this widget is that it shows an unread message counter on the top right-hand side. This is the widget you might already know from our previous versions.
Update November 12, 2014: We recently added the unread message counter to the regular mysms app icon. That’s why this widget is no longer available seperately.
mysms (New text)
Widget New Text
Basically, the title here says all you need to know: Tap on this widget to open the new message view and start composing a new message without opening the app first.

Popup – Directly reply to your incoming messages

Android phone and tablet

mysms popup
We’ve released a completely revised version of the pop-up for Android phone recently and now also offer the same experience for Android tablet. The new popup not only shows the last incoming message of a contact, but the whole conversation. So you can scroll through your messages without opening the app. If you want to answer the incoming message, click on the input field to open the message view. Moreover, as you are used to from the widgets, it displays an unread message counter and you can decide whether you want to use it in lock-screen. The color scheme of the popup depends on the theme you choose.

If you haven’t done so, try the different themes and tell us what you think about the new widgets and popup!
