This was 2014 for mysms

Posted in mysms news by mysms

The new year is already in full swing, but we gladly look back at 2014. We are proud that so many people share our passion for convenient texting from any device. So what has changed during the last year? How did we improve our apps?

mysms is available for every major platform

Looking back on 2014

Features, improvements and other cool stuff

At this point thanks to our supporting users who share their opinion and suggest ideas. We took your thoughts in mind and extended our apps with new features to make our service even more awesome.

These features demonstrate the biggest changes:

MMS support and MMS group chat

MMS and group MMS messaging

MMS and group MMS messaging

Share your pics and chat with friends! Especially for our users in the US, we integrated the MMS feature. Attachments can now be shared easily via MMS and you can even communicate with multiple contacts in an MMS group chat.

It’s our goal to further improve our MMS feature. If you are interested in participating in our beta test, please join our Google+ community.

Android 4.4

It’s your choice! With the release of Android 4.4, Google introduced the concept of one SMS app. Even if you prefer to use another SMS app on your phone, we modified our apps so you can still send & receive texts on any device. Please don’t forget that there are some differences though, if mysms only runs in the background.

GPS Location Sharing

Share your location

Share your location

Show your friends where you are! We added a mysms plugin to the Google Play Store which allows you to share your current or any other location with your contacts. To use this feature within the mysms app, you need to download the plugin.

Themes

Customize your mysms app

Customize your mysms app

Customization is great! We provided several cool themes already but wanted to give you the choice to edit our app to your preferences. Therefore, we added a theming option that allows you to change the color of nearly every single part of the app – bubbles, header, text and much more. Did you try it already?

We’re still collecting your suggestions and votes for existing ideas. As you might have already noticed we moved our support and ideas platform. You can now reach us at http://support.mysms.com.

mysms for iPad Supports Actionable Notifications

Posted in apps by mysms

With the introduction of iOS 8 Apple introduced a cool new feature: Actionable notifications. Apple has renewed their notifications and added access for third party apps like mysms. With the latest update for mysms for iPad we took the opportunity and also added actionable notifications.

Actionable Notifications Are Now Available for mysms for iPad

Actionable Notifications Are Now Available for mysms for iPad

For our iPad app you need to consider two different types of notifications: Those for messages and those for calls. All actionable notifications are available for banner notifications, in the notification center and on the lock screen.

If you receive a text message, a notification banner will appear that lets you directly mark the message as read (e.g. if you can read the entire content of the message in the notification) or it opens the conversation when you click on “Reply”.

Notification Center

When an incoming call reaches your phone, mysms for iPad will notify you. With the new notifications you can directly answer the call to start it on your phone or mute the call without opening mysms.

For missed calls we provide the notification options to call the person back on your phone or to mark the notification as read.

Lock Screen

In the notification center and on the lock screen you just swipe left to access the additional settings, on the banner you need to swipe down to make them visible. Have you already tried these actionable notifications?

Change the sending options according to your preferences | quick tip

Posted in mysms quick tips by mysms

With mysms we want to make your texting life as simple and convenient as possible on any of your devices. We focus on regular text messaging, but our service also combines MMS and instant messaging. As we implemented some changes within the last weeks, we’d like to give you a short overview of our sending options.

Choose your preferred sending option

Choose your preferred sending option

General info

You can change the send channel any time on your phone, computer or tablet by longpressing the send button. In addition you can choose to send attachments and groups as regular MMS or SMS with link in the mysms phone settings (Sending messages – Advanced settings – Send attachments and groups as). This setting will apply as default setting on all your devices.

Single message

SMS: This is the most common sending option. It’s a regular text message that only contains text and smileys or Emojis. For these texts your existing mobile contract is used (we never charge you for messages). E.g. if your contract includes an SMS flat rate, texts sent via mysms are also free of charge.

MMS: With mysms you can send any files you want (pictures, PDFs, sound files etc.). These messages are sent as MMS (multimedia messages). For MMS also your mobile carrier tariffs apply and you won’t get charged additionally.

SMS with link: In case MMS are too expensive for you, you can choose to send attachments as regular SMS. In this case a link to the file will be added to your SMS. Please note that the recipient needs to open the attachment in the browser.

mysms friends message (chat): If your friends also use mysms, you can send free messages to them. These messages are sent and received via your data connection (mobile data or WIFI).

Message to multiple recipients

SMS and SMS with link: All recipients will receive your message separately. Replies are not shown in a group conversation, but are split in separate conversations.

MMS: In countries where MMS are very popular and inexpensive (US, CA, FR), MMS is the default setting for messages to multiple recipients. Usually people in these countries are heavy users of MMS group chat. When you start a new message and add more than one recipient, the send button will show “MMS”. This means that a group chat gets started – both your actual message and the replies from all recipients will be shown in one single thread.

mysms group chat: In case you have several mysms friends and prefer instant messages, you can start a mysms group chat. The behavior is basically the same as for MMS group chat. Just make sure that the send button shows “chat” (mysms friends message).

Did you know you can choose the sending option individually? Do you prefer to save on costs by sending attachments as links or do you prefer regular MMS?

Never ever lose your messages again | mysms Premium

Posted in apps, messaging by mysms

Have you already heard about mysms Premium? Recently, we introduced two of our Premium features to you: Backup & restore and the call feature. Today we’re going to focus on our SMS archiving plugins.

In addition to the mysms cloud, you can back up your messages in your Dropbox, Google Drive, Evernote or Email account. With these services your messages are backed up forever.

Archive your messages

Archive your messages

We’ll now take a closer look at all services you can connect your mysms account with. Once you connect your mysms account with one of these services, your new incoming and outgoing texts will be archived there.

Connect mysms with Dropbox

Connecting mysms with Dropbox helps you to better manage your texts on any device. Dropbox is a file-hosting service that offers cloud storage. When you enable this integration in mysms, you will find your new incoming and outgoing texts in your Dropbox. After connecting your accounts, your messages are saved in a separate mysms folder (“Apps/mysms”).

Connect mysms with Google Drive

With our Google Drive extension you will never lose a message again. Google Drive is a file storage and synchronization service of Google. By activating the Google Drive extension, you can save your texts in your Google Drive account. Once connected, all new conversations will be forwarded to your “mysms” folder on your Google Drive.

Connect mysms with Google Drive

The Evernote integration allows you to back up your text messages. Evernote is a cloud-based note-taking service. After connecting your mysms account with Evernote, you can manage your SMS there. All new messages that reach or leave your phone will also be saved to your “mysms” notebook in Evernote.

Connect mysms with your Email account

The email integration allows you to manage all your text messages in your email account. Connecting your personal email address with your mysms account gives you the opportunity to forward all incoming and outgoing text messages automatically to your email account. You will find all incoming and outgoing texts as a separate email. Just enter your email address in the mysms settings.

Here’s how to get started:

  1. Go to the settings in mysms on your Android phone and click on “SMS Archiving”.
  2. Subscribe to mysms Premium.
  3. Connect your mysms account with Dropbox, Google Drive, Evernote or your Email account and enter your account data.
  4. From now on you will find all new incoming and outgoing messages in your chosen service.

The archiving plugins serve as an additional storage where you can manage and search your messages. It is not possible to restore your texts back from Dropbox, Google Drive, Evernote or your Email account to mysms. If you are interested in restoring your messages, just take a look at our backup & restore feature.

Export your texts to one single file| mysms Premium

Posted in apps, messaging by mysms

mysms Premium includes powerful features that enhance your texting life even more. We already introduced the backup & restore, the call feature and the SMS archiving to you. Today we’d like to explain the SMS export feature.

Safe your messages in one file

Safe your messages in one file

If you are in need to have all your existing messages available in one single file, the SMS export feature seems perfect for you. You can back up all your messages that are saved in the mysms cloud (not only new ones) with a few clicks. This file will be sent to your email account. By contrast, our SMS archiving feature constantly saves your new incoming and outgoing messages to your Evernote, Google Drive, Dropbox or Email account.

Here are the steps you need to follow to export your SMS inbox:

  1. Open mysms on your Android phone, go to the settings and click on “SMS Archiving”
  2. Subscribe to mysms Premium
  3. Type in your email address and submit it
  4. You’ll receive an email from mysms with a .CSV file. This file includes all texts that are available in the mysms cloud

With SMS export feature you have all your texts right at hand in one single file. You can search for specific messages and access them even offline.
